Arvinder Kaur

Arvinder Kaur believes in the power of the Universe. She enjoys Urdu ghazal, Punjabi and Hindi poetry as much as she enjoys delving in and writing Japanese short forms. She dreams of living close to a gentle stream and waking up to its murmuring waters.

Even though this duostich might look better as a tercet, and I’ve tested that, I keep going back to it as one. The juxtaposition is different and differently powerful and nuanced for me, as two lines, even though the tercet version has power over three lines.

As someone who has championed duostich in the inaugural issue of The Pen Haiku Review, I’m delighted that was chosen as a winning entry in a kukai, presumably Dee Evetts (British-born, moved to New York USA, and recently moved back to England UK).

All three haiku are fine examples of this genre and all ‘hold’ extra layers to reward the closer reader.

I love ‘the final fold’, such a beautiful haiku.
